About Claire Deck

Claire is an experienced educator with nearly two decades in high school teaching, alongside significant roles in the museum and performing arts sectors. Her journey began with a passion for ballet, leading her to Germany at 17 to pursue a career as a professional ballet dancer. During this time, Claire completed her HSC through correspondence, preparing herself for future endeavours once her dance career ended.

In pursuit of her father’s cultural heritage, Claire moved to Michigan, USA, where she earned a degree in Primary Education. Upon returning to Australia, she converted this qualification to a Bachelor of Arts. Claire’s first full-time role was in the museum industry, where she worked as an educator and custodian of cultural artifacts—a memorable and impactful experience.

Longing for the pastoral care aspect of teaching, Claire returned to the classroom, completing further graduate teaching qualifications online while working full-time. Over the past 15 years, she has taught English, History, Geography, PDHPE, and Religious Studies in high schools. Additionally, Claire has contributed to the choreography and production of school musicals.

Claire is married with two children who keep her busy. In her leisure time, she enjoys tea, a good book, or long walks with her therapy dog, Figgy. She brings a focused and diligent approach to the EduKate team, coupled with a healthy dose of optimism. From a lifetime of being a perfectionist, she has realised that the best learning comes from mistakes, provided we have the courage to make them.
